Day 5

Next weekend thousands of people from around the world will come to this cemetary in Busan, Korea to remember the nearly 41,000 soldiers killed during the Korean War. (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) The three men pictured above are Korean War veterans, from left, age 86, age 81 and 81, say among their scariest moments was falling asleep at the trigger after extreme sleep deprivation. They spoke to our group at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea. (UNMCK)

Beomeosa (pictured above) is one of 2,500 temples in Korea and continues to have 150 monks living on its property. Many Buddists who visit here, come mainly in April and May because of certain religious dates. The original temple was built in 678, but was destroyed by fire in 1592. Beomeosa was rebuilt. Then just a year and a half ago, the third and final gate to the temple was burned down. The arsonist went to jail, and the burned gate is now under construction.

How about some very fresh fish? Today we went to the Jagalchi Market, Korea's largest fish market. Half a dozen people in our group (not me) ate freshly killed squid that was still moving as it went down their throats! Here are just some of the pickings:
